Interventional pulmonology/advanced bronchoscopy

Interventional pulmonology uses minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat complex airway abnormalities. Techniques, such as state-of-the-art stenting, allow patients to breathe more easily and improve their quality of life while remaining close to home. Spectrum Health is the only facility in the western half of Michigan to offer advanced and comprehensive interventional pulmonology services.

We work closely with Spectrum Health Medical Group pulmonologists, regional pulmonologists, transplant physicians and primary care doctors to coordinate our patients’ medical care. Our specialists provide regional inpatient backup support for most complicated cases.

Meet our team

Gustavo Cumbo-Nacheli, MD, and John Egan, MD, are the only board-certified interventional pulmonologists in western Michigan. They partner with Geoffrey Lam, MD, a fellowship-trained cardiothoracic surgeon who specializes in rigid bronchoscopy and airway stent placement. They, together with a core team of advanced airway bronchoscopists, specialize in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including airway stenting, navigational bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound.
