Liver cancer screening

Liver cancer screening is recommended for only adults at increased risk of disease. If you have cirrhosis or other risk factors for liver cancer, you should talk to your doctor about getting screened regularly. When found early, the chances for treatment or cure are greater.

Along with regular screenings, you should practice awareness. Be aware of changes in your body, such as jaundice or weight loss, and report these changes to your doctor.

If you are at increased risk, your screening options are:

  • Liver ultrasound every six months
  • Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) blood test every six months
