Preparing for Your Child’s Orthopedics Appointment

If your child was referred to a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, it was probably because his or her condition needs further review by a specialist. Early diagnosis of an orthopaedic problem and management by a qualified specialist often means that your child can be treated more effectively and given an improved diagnosis.

Your First Office Visit

Your child's first visit will take about two hours. Please come 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment to register and to complete a health history. Children 17 years of age or younger must be with a parent or legal guardian to receive medical treatment.

Co-payments are due on the day of your visit.

To make the most of your child's appointment please bring:

  • All of your medication bottles including over the counter medications
  • Insurance cards
  • Any X-rays, MRIs, CT scans or ultrasounds related to your child's health problem. Radiology tests completed at Butterworth or Blodgett hospitals or Spectrum Health Urgent Care locations are available digitally to our office (you do not need to pick up films)
  • Fill out our new patient form

What Tests to Expect

An X-ray may be required at your child's visit. This will be taken in the office.

Some children may need an MRI, CT scan, bone scan and/or ultrasound. These tests will be scheduled for you in the hospital's radiology department

Reviewing Test Results

A follow-up appointment will be made to review your child's test results. If the results are abnormal, we will make treatment recommendations.
