The Spectrum Health Cardio-Oncology Program provides comprehensive care for cancer patients who have cardiac risk factors, heart disease, or may develop cardiac side effects from their cancer treatment. Chemotherapy drugs that are used to treat different types of cancers, as well as radiation therapy to the chest, may lead to side effects that cause lasting damage to the heart. The goals of the cardio-oncology program are to treat and manage any cardiac damage that cancer patients develop during and/or after treatment, ensure that their cardiac risk factors are well controlled, and closely monitor for any potential cardiac side effects from certain chemotherapy agents.
