Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics - 616.391.2242The Gerber Center for Infant Development and Nutrition at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital provides specialized care to children with neurodevelopmental issues. We focus on state of the art diagnostics and treatments, patient and family advocacy, outreach, education, and research.
Our program comprises several specialty clinics designed to assess a child's disabilities and connect families and primary care physicians with the right resources. We share your goals:
Our multidisciplinary clinics include:
Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics Clinic helps young children with health challenges such as prematurity, developmental delays or feeding problems by offering evaluation and treatment recommendations from our specialists.
Infant Progress Clinic provides screening services for children who were previously cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and meet specific criteria that place them at risk for developmental delay.
Developmental Assessment Clinics are held each month in Muskegon, Ottawa and Kent Counties and provide follow-up care for infants who were under 30 weeks gestation, weighed less than 1500 grams at birth, were diagnosed with HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy/body cooling protocol) and who were admitted to the Helen DeVos Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The multidisciplinary teams providing these follow-up services consist of physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, hearing specialists, dieticians and nurses.
The Developmental Assessment Clinics were formed through a partnership with the Muskegon Intermediate School District, Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, Kent Intermediate School District, the Kent County Health Department and WIC programs from each county. Developmental Assessment Clinics are available to the residents of each respective county. Patients must live in the county where the clinic is held in order to be seen in that clinic.
Intensive Feeding Clinic provides comprehensive evaluation and management of oral aversion in children who have swallowing and feeding disorders. We offer treatment programs in and out of the hospital for children who have significant feeding issues that affect growth and development.
