Critical Care

Critical care medicine at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital provides care for children with traumatic injuries or life-threatening illness, or following major surgery in the region’s only pediatric critical care unit (PCCU). Our medical team provides around-the-clock care for our 24-bed unit.

In addition to intensive care, we provide a variety of services in and out of the hospital including:

  • Nutritional support
  • Apnea diagnostics
  • Pulmonary function testing
  • Intravenous access (temporary or long term)
  • Management of home ventilation
  • Flexible bronchoscopy
  • Pain management
  • Pediatric transport
  • Sedation
  • Complex patient evaluation
