Car Seat Safety

Safe Kids Grand Rapids provides car seat check events throughout the area, as well as five permanent fitting stations in the Greater Grand Rapids area.

Fitting stations are in various locations, but mostly at police and fire departments. Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be in attendance at each fitting station and have all the needed materials to check child safety seats.

The Safe Kids Car Seat Inspections happen on specific days during each month.  Please check the events calendar or call 616.391.7233 for more information.

How Do I Get a Discounted Car or Booster Seat?

If you are in need of a discounted car or booster seat(s) for your child/children, please read the following information carefully to see if you qualify. If you have any further questions, please call 616.391.SAFE (7233).

Preparing to Purchase a Discounted Seat

If the entire family is receiving Medicaid, please bring the following with you when purchasing a seat from Safe Kids:

  • The child who needs the carseat,  or if mom is expecting, she must be within eight weeks of delivery
  • Medicaid cards for everyone in the family
  • $25 cash or money order
  • The vehicle in which you normally travel

If the entire family is not on Medicaid, you may still purchase a seat at the non-profit discount price, if the child is present.
